Ryan Hansen-Vera, Principal

Mrs. Hansen-Vera joined BRSSD in July of 2020. She has 18 years of experience in education having served as an elementary school teacher and administrator at the middle school level. Mrs. Hansen-Vera is a student-centered leader dedicated to building school cultures that best supports the social, emotional, and academic needs of all children. Her leadership is dedicated to supporting the teaching community and enriching parental involvement to collectively provide the best learning outcomes for all students.

Mrs. Hansen-Vera began her career as an elementary school teacher in the Evergreen School District in San Jose. Working with primary students, she quickly developed a passion for literacy with a focus in teaching writing. As a teacher, Mrs. Hansen-Vera found great joy inspiring students to find their voice, communicate their ideas, and express their opinions. These themes have remained true throughout Mrs. Hansen-Vera’s roles as an Instructional Coach, Teacher Induction Leader, Assistant Principal, Site Director, and in her current position as a Principal.

Mrs. Hansen-Vera is a New York City native. She earned a Bachelor's degree from Molloy College and a Master’s degree from California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) in Educational Leadership and Social Justice. Mrs. Hansen-Vera was named as CSUEB’s “40 Under 40” alumni honor for demonstrating dedication to her profession as well as philanthropic and personal endeavors.

On a personal note, Mrs. Hansen-Vera is a wife and mother of three: 16 yr. old twins Gabriel & Havana and 5 yr. old Scarlett. She enjoys podcasts, live music, and sightseeing. In July of 2018, her youngest daughter, Scarlett, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Scarlett successfully completed treatment September 27, 2020. Mrs. Hansen-Vera and her husband, Juan, dedicate their time to raising pediatric cancer awareness.
