Descriptions of PTA Committees & Volunteer Opportunities
Look through the list below to find just the right volunteer opportunity for you.
ART-IN-ACTION: Assist with classroom art program offered in K - 5th grades. Parents are trained as docents, and the focus is on art appreciation and learning and applying art concepts in student artwork.
ASSEMBLIES: Work with a small committee to schedule and book 3-6 assemblies per year; variety of subject areas to broaden students' experience.
BEAUTIFICATION: Coordinate or help with campus beautification efforts through proposing necessary purchases, scheduling or helping with family clean-up days, and calling volunteers to participate in those efforts.
BOOK FAIR: Help to organize, set-up, and sell books to students/families during the annual Book Fair (September 19-13 this year). Many helpers needed for this event. You can volunteer for an hour or for more. Help is needed to set up, break down, and work the event.
COMMUNICATIONS : A broad category which may include Wednesday flyers, Nesbit SCOOP, school website and email announcement list, School Directory, Bulletin Board postings, Reader Board requests.
FAMILY INVOLVEMENT : Plan for or help with such events as Family Picnic (Sept.), Multi-Cultural Potluck (Jan.), Talent Show (Feb.), Founder's Day (March), Ice Cream Social (June).
FUNDRAISING: Participate in our Fundraising drives throughout the year, including Cookie Dough sales, Halloween Festival and Raffle and the Silent Auction. Escrip and Boxtops are painless yearlong options.
HOLIDAY EVENTS: Coordinate or help with Halloween Festival (a Saturday of fun, games, prizes, food, and pumpkins for sale) or Candy Cane Lane (Holiday gifts). Both of these fun family events require a great many helpers.
HOT FOOD: Help serve Hot Food to students during lunchtime. This service will likely be offered 4x/week this year. (based on parent volunteers)
MASCOT WEAR: Help to sell/fill orders for Nesbit mascot wear throughout the year. Purchased T-Shirts/Sweatshirts can be worn on Monday's to show your school spirit! Both child and adult sizes available!
NEWCOMER'S CLUB: Join the group of friendly volunteers which welcomes new families to the school, and orients them to "life at Nesbit".
PROJECT WEE CARE: Participate in the County's Project Wee Care to benefit the needy in our community by donating requested items to Samaritan House box.
RED RIBBON WEEK : Coordinate or help with school-wide program to celebrate RRW (no drugs/Healthy Choices) in October; may include a motivational assembly.
ROOM PARENT NETWORK : Participate in classroom and school activities in a variety of ways like Boxtops Collector, Field Trip helper, or class party organizer. Also, receive important info from PTA to be shared with other parents in classroom.
SITE SUPPORT : Volunteer to help with such school-run programs as Traffic duty, Disaster Preparedness, Homework Club Tutors, and Library Volunteers.
STAFF APPRECIATION : Sign-up to bring monthly staff treats, coordinate or provide help with Staff Appreciation Week in May.
YEARBOOK : Assist with the making, ordering & distribution of Nesbit yearbook. Room Parent helpers to act as photographer for school/class events of interest, and to ensure each student is represented on its pages.
